spare engine

Inlägg av arthor »

greetings all

still thinking of repowerring my Selcruiser 27. If I stick with the one inboard then I want an outboard as a spare. What sort of power do you think I would need as a "get you home" if I am a few miles offshore. I was going to leave it permanently on as a river/parking engine but lifted up rather than tilted so it needs to be as small and light as possible but still do the job.
20-25hp?? or do I need to go bigger do you think. I was even thinking that to shove her along at displacement speed in an emergency, I could go down to maybe a 15 with a big prop.
What does everyone else have on theirs??

Here is my proposal.
  • Borrow a dinghy with a 15hp outboard.
Use dinghy to tow the Selcruiser.
    Take note of achieved speed.
If within 1-2 knots of desired speed use 15hp outboard as a spare.
If too slow, retry procedure with bigger outboard.

:D
